With a roster that features 17 new players, the presence of veterans like defenseman Jake Townsend will be key to a successful 2015-15 for the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
Townsend enters his third season in Wichita Falls after posting new career-highs in goals, assists and points in 2013-14. In 50 games played, he tallied 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists) to rank second among Wildcat defensemen. The Colorado-native played a large role on special teams for the Wildcats last season, with four of his goals coming either shorthanded or on the power play.
Townsend reached a milestone in his second full season in Wichita Falls, skating in his 100th game as a Wildcat in a 3-2 win over the Lone Star Brahmas on March 7. For his career, the veteran defenseman has played in 110 games, recording 37 points on 11 goals and 26 assists over parts of three seasons.
Prior to his time in Wichita Falls, Townsend played for the Pikes Peak Miners of the North American Prospect Hockey League.
The Wildcats will drop the puck on the 2014-15 campaign when they host the Odessa Jackalopes on Sept. 13 at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. All tickets for that contest are free, and can be obtained by visiting the Wildcats offices.
