SOLDOTNA, Alaska – Stan Sojka scored his first goal of the season and Chase Munroe made 38 saves, plus another five stops in a shootout, to lead the Wichita Falls Wildcats (13-6-3) to a 2-1 victory against the Kenai River Brown Bears on Saturday.

The 38 saves for Munroe equaled his season high, a mark he also reached in Friday’s contest, while Tyler Ledford scored the winning goal in the shootout.

Wichita Falls was the first to get on the board thanks to Sojka’s first North American Hockey League goal. Sojka won the puck in the corner after a dump in, walked out in front and put his backhander past Kris Oldham. Max Reisinger earned the only assist, his 10th point of the season, with the tally coming at 11:18 of the period.

The two teams traded power play opportunities early in the second stanza, but neither team could generate much on the man advantage, setting the tone for a scoreless middle frame.

Jordan Jancze had the best chance of the period after he found a pocket of space in the low slot, but he put his shot just wide of the net off Ledford’s centering feed.

With time winding down in the third period, the Brown Bears finally managed to beat Munroe, as Nathan Colwell deflected in a shot from the blue line at 18:50 of the final frame to send the game to overtime.

Neither team could find a winning tally in the extra five minutes, so the game headed into a shootout.

The first two rounds of the shootout were scoreless, before Ledford scored the only goal of the shootout in the third round. Ledford skated in slowly and faked forehand-backhand-forehand before tucking it past a sprawled-out Oldham.

Kenai River could not find a response to that marker, as Munroe stopped the last three Brown Bear shooters to clinch the win for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats are now 3-2 in games decided by a shootout.

The Wildcats continue their Alaska road trip on Friday, Nov. 22 when they travel to Fairbanks to take on the Ice Dogs. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. central standard time.
