The Shreveport Mudbugs scored timely goals and had a great night in nets to top the Wichita Falls Wildcats, 3-1 on a very cold night on this side of North Texas.
Both clubs exchanged good scoring opportunities to begin the 1st period, but the Mudbugs struck first blood when Brendan VanSweden put an innocent wrist shot from the top of the zone which was tipped in front from Jordan Fader to give Shreveport the 1-0 lead at the 15:18 mark of the opening period. It was Fader’s second goal of the season.
The Mudbugs kept the momentum going in the 2nd period as Tomass Zeile rifled a shot from the top which got past netminder Jared Dempsey as he was screened in front to give Shreveport a 2-0 lead at the 4:47 mark of the 2nd. Ricky Carbalo of the Wildcats got his team on the board at 7:01 of the 2nd as he placed a perfect shot top shelf from the right wing circle to beat Dylan Lubbesmeyer and make it a 2-1 contest.
Frankie Melton scored his 20th goal of the year as he slammed home a juicy rebound to give the Mudbugs a 3-1 lead. Dylan Lubbesmeyer had 32 saves on the night to preserve the win.
