Wildcats goaltender Evan Moyse has been named the South Division Star of the Week, the NAHL announced Monday.
Moyse was rock-solid in net for the Wildcats over the weekend series in Shreveport, making 76 of a possible 80 saves (.950 SV%). He led the Cats to a sweep over the Mudbugs and helped Wichita Falls secure second place in the South Division standings.
“Since he made his commitment to Ohio State, he’s been working harder than ever.” Wildcats Head Coach Josh Nelson said. “It’s great to see the efforts he puts in at practice pay off in our games.”
On Saturday night, the Wildcats relinquished a three-goal lead and were heavily out-chanced late in the game. Moyse made 18 third period saves to force overtime, where he and the Cats killed off a long 4-on-3 power play. Then, in the shootout, the future Buckeye shut down all five Mudbugs shooters and gave his teammates multiple chances to win the game. Ryan Orgel blasted home the lone shootout goal to give the Cats their first shootout victory of the season.
Moyse has now started three consecutive games, all of which have been against the top teams in the South. He’s boasted an impressive .933 save percentage over the span, and is fostering a case as an elite NAHL goaltender.
